From Monday 16th December to Friday 20th December 2024 the 5Ts were in Devon (5th T was Truffle)! It was about a 4.5 hour drive in total however we made a few stops on the way. We stayed in a small Cottage on a farm called 'Langabridge Farm' they gave us some bacon from the farm and some eggs when we arrived!
Day 1 - Getting There:
Our adventure began with a drive from home to Bristol, where we visited our former neighbour Vera. At ninety-four years old, Vera has always been lively, taking walks to the shops and bringing a spark wherever she goes. We would call her Grandma Vera even though she wasn't our grandma! Lunch was a comforting meal at a local pub—I had in a burger with fries and a lemonade.
After our meal, we returned to Grandma Vera's room at the care home. She gave us a tour, sharing her thoughts on her new abode. Truffle, our beloved dog, was the talk of the place. Grandma Vera had made sure everyone knew about her legendary life.
Leaving Bristol behind, we set off for our final destination—Devon. Once arriving at Langabridge Farm, we parked in the designated spot. My sister and mother headed towards the cottage while my dad and I used an electric cart to transport our luggage. Together, we explored the cottage, finding eggs and bacon in the fridge.
I took our suitcases up the steep stairs to our bedroom and started unpacking and charging my devices. Meanwhile, my mother prepared dinner: eggs, ham, and broccoli. It was a simple yet hearty meal that we enjoyed together before retiring to our rooms for a well-earned sleep.
Langabridge Farm greeted us with a warm welcome and the promise of more adventures to come.
Day 2 - A Terrible Disaster:
Our second day at Langabridge Farm began with a breakfast of eggs, ham, and broccoli. After our meal, we prepared for the day's activities. My dad and I had the task of heating the hot tub, which required us to start a fire inside and consistently replenish it with wood every 20 to 30 minutes. It was a continuous effort to keep the fire going strong.
By 11 AM, my sister and dad set off to the shops to gather some food essentials. During their absence, my mum and I took on the responsibility of adding more wood to the fire. We made sure to keep the flames roaring, ensuring the hot tub would be ready for later. When my sister and dad returned, they brought back a bag full of groceries, and we enjoyed a lunch of fusilli pasta together.
At 3 PM, my dad and I checked the hot tub, expecting it to be perfectly warm. However, we were surprised to find the bottom still cold. We realized we had forgotten to stir the water, causing the heat to remain unevenly distributed. We had to wait another three hours, and this time, we made sure to stir the water to ensure an even temperature. By 6 PM, the hot tub was finally ready, and we all enjoyed a warm soak together, sheltering from the rain under half the cover.
Our relaxing moment turned into a nightmare when my mum slipped on the stairs leading down to the ground and screamed in pain. We were all frozen in shock and fear. My dad quickly rushed to help her up the steep hill and into the cottage, while my sister and I stayed in the hot tub, trying to process what had just happened.
After a few minutes, we joined them inside to check on our mum, who was still in great pain and needed to lie down on the bed. I took charge of making dinner, preparing sausages, eggs, and toast since my mum was unable to cook. As the day came to an end, we all went to bed, praying for our mum's swift recovery. It was a day filled with highs and lows, leaving us hopeful for a better tomorrow.
Day 3 - Trying To Chill:
