Brief Summary: Michael is hungry, lonely and scared when he is washed up on a seemingly deserted island. He soon discovers another inhabitant - Kensuke, a former Japanese soldier - who, although initially unfriendly, provides Michael with food and water. Gradually, a strong bond develops between the two castaways.    

How It Was: I thought the book was very interesting, I liked hearing about the animals and to imagine what life on an island would be like. The main characters in the book are Michael, Michael's Mum and Dad, Kensuke and Stella the dog. Stella the dog was my favourite. She was very loyal to Michael and also loved Kensuke.

Conclusion: Michael promises to keep Kensuke's existence a secret for ten years, and is then rescued by his parents.
