Jeff Kinney is an incredibly successful American author and cartoonist, best known for creating the wildly popular "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series. Born in 1971, he's been entertaining young readers for years with his humorous and relatable stories about the everyday life of a middle school boy named Greg Heffley.

Before achieving fame as a children's author, Kinney had aspirations of becoming a newspaper cartoonist. He even created a comic strip called "Igdoof" during his college years. However, after graduating, he struggled to get his work syndicated. It wasn't until 1998 that he started developing the ideas for "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," which he initially published online in daily installments.

The series' success led to a multi-book deal with a publisher, and the first book was released in 2007. Since then, the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series has sold over 275 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling children's book series of all time. The books have also been adapted into popular feature films.

Kinney's talent extends beyond writing. He's also the creator of Poptropica, a popular online game for kids. He and his wife even own a bookstore called An Unlikely Story, where they actively promote reading and writing.
